Requests doesn't close the file for you, so you'll need to call close() yourself, which means saving a reference to the file object. The following should work in Python 3.8+

In versions before 3.8, you need to save off the file object reference before creating files:

In either version, using a with block could also work since you're only sending a single file, and the context manager will close the file for you. However this will also automatically catch any exceptions that are thrown within the block so in some cases you might not want that option.

Also, unless you were specifically uploading a file with the .filepart extension, that is a temporary file created as part of the FTP process which should automatically get renamed or deleted by the FTP process when the transfer is successfully completed, so the problem may be that you're trying to move the temporary file which the system has already cleaned up.

If upload_file is meant to be the file, use:

You can use a tuple for the files mapping value, with between 2 and 4 elements, if you need more control. The first element is the filename, followed by the contents, and an optional content-type header value and an optional mapping of additional headers:

This sets an alternative filename and content type, leaving out the optional headers.
If you are meaning the whole POST body to be taken from a file (with no other fields specified), then don't use the files parameter, just post the file directly as data. You then may want to set a Content-Type header too, as none will be set otherwise. See Python requests - POST data from a file.
(2018) the new python requests library has simplified this process, we can use the 'files' variable to signal that we want to upload a multipart-encoded file

If you want to upload a single file with Python requests library, then requests lib supports streaming uploads, which allow you to send large files or streams without reading into memory.

Some may need to upload via a put request and this is slightly different that posting data. It is important to understand how the server expects the data in order to form a valid request. A frequent source of confusion is sending multipart-form data when it isn't accepted. This example uses basic auth and updates an image via a put request.

I have a web server that acts as a proxy between users and a file server. Users can upload their files to my web server and I upload them to the file server. I want to be able to do this without saving the temp uploaded file but every time I get unexpected end of file error from the file server. You are misusing the content-type header in your request. There is no need to manually set multipart/form and boundary if you're using files argument from requests. That is why you're getting unexpected end of file error. Try sending your request without that header.

I've been looking around for ways to upload large file with additional data, but there doesn't seem to be any solution. To upload file, I've been using this code and it's been working fine with small file:

The problem is that the code loads the whole file up before sending, and I would run into MemoryError when uploading large files. I've looked around, and the way to stream data is to set

but I need to add {"composite": "NONE"} to the data. If not, the server wouldn't recognize the file.

I'm getting a zip file from a remote url in a Flask view and returning it. When use requests to access the Flask view and save the file, I get an error when I try to open the file. However, it seems to work if I do what the view does but in the terminal. Why am I getting this error?

In the first case, you've used .text:
response = make_response(log_file.text)
In the second case, you've used .content:
handle.write(response.content)
.content is "Content of the response, in bytes." .text is "Content of the response, in unicode."
Since you want a byte stream, use .content.
