Looking to use PILLOW (PIL) to do an imagegrab. The purpose of the imagegrab is to view a box on the screen to see incoming things in a flash game. I did pip install pillow in my terminal. I want to put from PIL import imagegrab When I put that text into where I write my script it says:
"ImageGrab isn't accessed by pylance".
I'm not sure what the issue is with the library for PILLOW or what I should do to fix this. FYI I'm very new to coding, this is week 1 for me.
Error Code in Visual Studio Code:
This is a warning from the static code analyzer PyLance saying you are not using ImageGrab in your code yet (it's an idle import, basically). It shouldn't affect the execution of the code.

I'm trying to work on some old code that used a library I'm not very familiar with anymore, and am getting the 'No module named' error. I'm using sublime text editor on windows. I had edited some things in build to run c++ previously if that might effect it.
If the library in particular matters, it is youtube_dl
I have tried $pip install -upgrade youtube_dl but it hasn't changed anything.
The code that is throwing an error is import youtube_dl
I searched around on the internet, and I found an answer.
(Edited for clarity)
”Sublime is a module only available in Sublime Text embedded Python interpreters.
import sublime will only work from a plugin or inside the console, not on your system Python interpreter.”
The forum post is here.
Not sure if this will help, as I do not know if you are trying to import sublime, but this is literally all the info I could find.
Hopefully this helps!
I have VS Code on a Mac.
Pillow is installed and version verified as 8.3.2 via Pip list in the terminal window of VS Code. I have confirmed via the pillow docs that the ImageOps.contain() is part of 8.3.
My problem is that when I use the terminal, type python and run the following, it works perfectly:
from PIL import Image, ImageOps
im = Image.open("images/Barcelona.jpg")
print(im.format, im.size, im.mode)
im = ImageOps.contain(im, (800, 800), method=3)
im.show()
Preview pops right up and shows me the picture.
When I put the exact code into VS Code or build a .py file with Nano, I get an error message which is shown in this image:
I've verified the right version of Python, Pillow, and such. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
This turns out to be a problem with what I can only call nested environments and/or a conflict between Anaconda and Workspaces. I'm not really sure but when I used the _version import to figure out a) what VS Code thought and then b) figured out the environment Pip was reporting on, I deactivated up one level, upgraded the (base) to the 8.3 version and all ran fine. The knowledge on importing the version variable to see precisely what the code is importing came from the question asked below and was invaluable.
I intend to use opencv and pytesseract to extract text of out images. On executing the following code in a Python 3.7 Interpreter, I am receiving a error I'm not sure I understand.
import cv2
import pytesseract
#tesseract.exe location provided
pytesseract.tesseract_cmd=r'C:\\Users\\shree\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Tesseract-OCR\\tesseract.exe'
#image location provided
img=cv2.imread('C:\\Users\\shree\\Desktop\\hey.jpeg')
text=pytesseract.image_to_string(img)
print(text)
error shown
P.S:
I have installed opencv and pytessearct in
"C:\Users\shree\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python37-32\Scripts"
Python 3.7 Interpreter is installed in
"C:\Users\shree\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python37-32"
Please excuse if this is an obvious/dumb question. Actually, I'm just starting out. I read about this at https://towardsdatascience.com/read-text-from-image-with-one-line-of-python-code-c22ede074cac
A Detailed answer and an alternate way(if required) would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Replace the line,
pytesseract.tesseract_cmd=r'C:\\Users\\shree\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Tesseract-OCR\\tesseract.exe'
with,
pytesseract.pytesseract.tesseract_cmd = r'C:\\Users\\shree\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Tesseract-OCR\\tesseract.exe'
This should fix the issue if tesseract is installed properly.
I'm trying to copy some text to clipboad in my python program, so I've installed pyperclip via pip command via Windows command line interface, it says everything is successfully installed, not a problem. However, when I import the thing into my project, I get
from tkinter import *
from tkinter import ttk
import pyperclip
import binascii
#my code...
...
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pyperclip'
So I was like *** that, maybe it's broken, I found a little library that does exactly the same, called "clipboard". Exactly the same installation procedure - from the command line. Same successful installation. Same ModuleNotFoundError. So clearly something wrong on my side, but I have no idea what it is, no idea where to look and what to do. I just want to be able to copy some text to clipboard. Multiplatform. That's it.
It's Python 3.8, Windows 10
pyperclip-1.8.0
pip-20.2.2
If I need to show you some logs or tell you something about my installation, please tell me what exactly to do and where to find information you may need. I'm good with instructions, but I don't have much (any) experience rummaging through logs and python installation folders.
Similar posts have slightly different problems, I didn't find any clear solution or hints that I could understand. No reply seemed like a solution to me.
Anyway, I would really appreciate any help from the community. Being unable to simply copy something to clipboard is killing me, especially since it's the only thing I can't implement. And it's just one function for one button to copy one short piece of text. It's like being stuck at 99% loading, when everything is done, and you just can't write the final line of code, haha.
Pycharm uses a virtualenv for pycharm projects. Navigate through:
Pycharm >> File >> Settings(or press Ctrl+Alt+S on win) >> Project:Name >> Project Interpreter >> Click on the plus(+) symbol above the scroll bar and type in pyperclip and press install package.
And this will install pyperclip for your Pycharm IDE. Since pycharm uses a virtual env for its projects you can change it in the project interpreter section as well, and then the pyperclip you installed from the cmd using pip, will be available to be used on that global version of python(now used by your Pycharm too).
If you still have any errors or doubts, do let me know :D
Cheers
I want to have python save an image file of the whole screen as a variable with ctypes so that I could access the screen in a program and do something with it (like put it on a pygame window). I can't use any other libraries unless they are included with python (no installing or pip). Does anyone know how to do this?
Edit: I'm using windows 10.
PIL.ImageGrab is from PILLOW (a python image library fork which you can install with pip). You can give a bounding box or capture the entire screen.
Update: OP now mentions he can't use external libraries.
Then you could virtually hit printscreen and read the clipboard. The code of PILLOW is open-source feel free to use it.
Remember that you can always call a command from within python:
>>> import os
>>> os.system("pip install pillow")
Or download the zip of the library and import it in your code.
