I have a dataset that looks like this:
store itemId numberOfItemsSold
Berlin 1 78
Amsterdam 3 12
Berlin 2 31
Amsterdam 1 12
Berlin 1 90
I want to create a dataset or dictionary such that I have accumulated information regarding how many of EACH item was sold in each different store. For example, in Berlin, 78+90 items were sold of itemId = 1. Then, 31 items were sold where itemId = 2.
How can I extract such information for each store for each different product (itemId)?
You can do this using groupby(), this would give a DataFrame:
summary_df = df.groupby(['store', 'itemId']).sum()
If you want a dictionary:
summary_dict = dict(zip(summary_df.index, summary_df.numberOfItemsSold))

I have a big dataset. It's about news reading. I'm trying to clean it. I created a checklist of cities that I want to keep (the set has all the cities). How can I drop the rows based on that checklist? For example, I have a checklist (as a list) that contains all the french cities. How can I drop other cities?

You can do this using pandas.Dataframe.isin. This will return boolean values checking whether each element is inside the list x. You can then use the boolean values and take out the subset of the df with rows that return True by doing df[df['City'].isin(x)]. Following is my solution:

I'm working on transforming a dataframe to show the top 3 earners.
The dataframe looks like this

In my actual dataset, I have several more columns and rows, and I want to print out and get to
something like

Every iteration that I've searched through doesn't quite get there because I get
'Name' is both an index level and a column label, which is ambiguous.
Use groupby:
>>> df.groupby('Name').sum().sort_values('Sale', ascending=False)

Allistair 25

What im trying to achieve is to combine Name into one value using comma delimiter whenever Country column is duplicated, and sum the values in Salary column.

Note: use pd.unique() in place of set() if order of unique values is important

First get counts per groups by groupby with size and unstack, last join to second DataFrame:

I have a dataframe topic_data that contains the output of an LDA topic model:

This shows the top 5 terms for each topic, and the score (weight) for each. What I'm trying to do is reformat so that the index is the rank of the term, the columns are the topic IDs, and the values are formatted strings generated from the word and score columns (something along the lines of "%s (%.02f)" % (word,score)). That means the new dataframe should look something like this:

What's the right way of going about this? I assume it involves a combination of index-setting, unstacking, and ranking, but I'm not sure of the right approach.
