Python Parsing an A2L file used in automotive industries - python

I have a file from which i am trying to parse some data.
I am having issues in following case .
In case one if I find "NO_COMPU_METHOD" in line then I will save the word before it , which is SWORD
SWORD NO_COMPU_METHOD 0 0 -32768 32767
In case two if I find "0 NO_COMPU_METHOD" in line then I will save the word before it , which is SSV__UWORD_Z
MEAS_SMAP SSV__UWORD_Z 0 NO_COMPU_METHOD 9 0 65535zz
Here is the code i am trying to use

The issue is that ,since i am using split() function, python parses "0 NO_COMPU_METHOD" as "0" and "NO_COMPU_METHOD" and hence i am facing problem . Is there any way I can parse the string with white spaces. Is there anything wrong in my regular expression code

If I tried to read this file I will obtain one char to one char even for escape characters.
So, my question is how to transform this plain text to utf-8 string so that I can have one character when reading \300 and not 4 characters.
I tried to pass "encondig =utf-8" in open file method but does not work.
I have made the same example passing raw_data as variable and it works properly.

For this example \300 is only one char.

The problem is that on the read file the escape \ symbols are coming in as \, but in the example you've provided they are being evaluated as part of the numerics that follow it. ie, \276 is read as a single character.
If you run:

You would should be getting the same error that you were getting originally. Notice that we are using the raw-string literal instead of regular string literal. This will ensure that the \ don't get escaped.
You would need to evaluate the RAW_DATA to force it to evaluate the \.
You can do something like RAW_DATA = eval(f'"{RAW_DATA}"') or
import ast
RAW_DATA = ast.literal_eval(f'"{RAW_DATA}"')
Note, the second option is a bit more secure that doing a straight eval as you are limiting the scope of what can be executed.

Removing blanks in Python

I am new to Python so i am trying to make is simple as possible. I am working with CSV file that contains data that i have to Mapreduce. In my mapper portion I get blank data which does not let me Reduce is. This is due to CSV file has blanks in it. I need an advice on how to remove blanks in my Mapper so it will not go into my Reducer.
Example of my result.

You can use the builtin string.strip function

What it does is getting the 33rd line and strips all whitespaces from it .strip(). This assumes that your file has actually 33 lines in it otherwise it will raise an exception.
Then it checks if the vehiclecolor has any characters via the if and prints it only if there is a value.
In Python an expression of an empty string is recognized as "false".

How to insert random spaces in txt file?

I have a file with lines of DNA in a file called 'DNASeq.txt'. I need a code to read each line and split each line at random places (inserting spaces) throughout the line. Each line needs to be split at different places.
EX: I have:
AAACCCHTHTHDAFHDSAFJANFAJDSNFADKFAFJ
And I need something like this:
AAA ADSF DFAFDDSAF ADF ADSF AFD AFAD
I have tried (!!!very new to python!!):

You can read a file line wise, write each line character-wise in a new file and insert spaces randomly:

The pattern of spaces is random. You can influence it by settin max_no_spaces or remove the randomness to split after max_no_spaces all the time

I'm writing the new sequences to another file for precaution. It's
not safe to write to the file you are reading from.
The with constructor is so that you don't need to explicitly close
the file you opened.
Files can be read line by line using for loop.
''.join() converts a list to a string.
map() applies a function to every element of a list and returns the
results as a new list.
lambda is how you define a function without naming it. lambda x:
2*x doubles the number you feed it.
x + ' ' * 3 adds 3 spaces after x. random.randint(0, 1) returns
either 1 or 0. So I'm randomly selecting if I'll add a space after
each character or not. If the random.randint() returns 0, 0 spaces are added.
You can toss a coin after each character whether to add space there or not.
This function takes string as input and returns output with space inserted at random places.

Python RegEx nested search and replace

I need to to a RegEx search and replace of all commas found inside of quote blocks.
i.e.
"thing1,blah","thing2,blah","thing3,blah",thing4
needs to become
"thing1\,blah","thing2\,blah","thing3\,blah",thing4

The csv module is perfect for parsing data like this as csv.reader in the default dialect ignores quoted commas. csv.writer reinserts the quotes due to the presence of commas. I used StringIO to give a file like interface to a string.

I came up with an iterative solution using several regex functions:
finditer(), findall(), group(), start() and end()
There's a way to turn all this into a recursive function that calls itself.

str.replace(old, new[, count])
Return a copy of the string with all occurrences of substring old

str.startswith() not working as I intended

I'm trying to test for a /t or a space character and I can't understand why this bit of code won't work. What I am doing is reading in a file, counting the loc for the file, and then recording the names of each function present within the file along with their individual lines of code. The bit of code below is where I attempt to count the loc for the functions.

As you can see, my test print for the line shows a /t, but the if statement explicitly says (or so I thought) that it should only execute with no whitespace characters present.

\s is only whitespace to the re package when doing pattern matching.
For startswith, an ordinary method of ordinary strings, \s is nothing special. Not a pattern, just characters.
Your question has already been answered and this is slightly off-topic, but...
If you want to parse code, it is often easier and less error-prone to use a parser. If your code is Python code, Python comes with a couple of parsers (tokenize, ast, parser). For other languages, you can find a lot of parsers on the internet. ANTRL is a well-known one with Python bindings.
As an example, the following couple of lines of code print all lines of a Python module that are not comments and not doc-strings:

As a_token above is already parsed, you can easily check for function definition, too. You can also keep track where the function ends by looking at the current column start a_token[2][1]. If you want to do more complex things, you should use ast.
You string literals aren't what you think they are.
You can specify a space or TAB like so:
space = ' '
tab = '\t'
