New to Python..., well actually new to programming in general, so pls bear with me. On Ubuntu 20.04 (yes, new to Linux as well) with Python 3.8.2
I'm trying to run a script that uses PyPDF2. I was able to install it just fine with:
sudo apt-get install python3-pypdf2
and I can import it from the command line without any error:
import PyPDF2
When i try to import it from Pycharm, however, it generates a ModuleNotFoundError error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/home/surista/.config/JetBrains/PyCharm2020.1/scratches/scratch_2.py", line 1, in <module>
from PyPDF2 import PdfFileReader
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'PyPDF2'
Here's the script I'm using.
from PyPDF2 import PdfFileReader
def get_info(path):
with open(path, 'rb') as f:
pdf = PDFFileReader(f)
info = pdf.getDocumentInfo()
number_of_pages = pdf.getNumPages()
print(info)
author = info.author
creator = info.creator
producer = info.producer
subject = info.subject
title = info.title
if __name__ == '__main__':
path = '/home/surista/Documents/pdfs/test_eng-1.pdf'
get_info(path)
Probably missing something obvious here, but any help would be appreciated.
First of all you should install python packages via pip. Run pip install PyPDF2, that might fix it already.
Also check which interpreter is selected for your project in pycharm. If Pycharm isn't using your system python, it won't see packages installed from a normal shell.
You'll find it in the Settings -> Project: your_project -> Project Interpreter.

i ran the following code
import io
import os
# Imports the Google Cloud client library
from google.cloud import vision
# Instantiates a client
client = vision.ImageAnnotatorClient()
# The name of the image file to annotate
file_name = os.path.abspath('resources/wakeupcat.jpg')
# Loads the image into memory
with io.open(file_name, 'rb') as image_file:
content = image_file.read()
image = vision.Image(content=content)
# Performs label detection on the image file
response = client.label_detection(image=image)
labels = response.label_annotations
print('Labels:')
for label in labels:
print(label.description)
the error i get is the following
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "F:\coding\pythonfolder\main.py", line 4, in <module>
from google.cloud import vision
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'google'
the library is installed is the following
pip install google-cloud-vision
I am fairly new to the google vision api so maybe there's some point I am missing
kindly let me know what the issue is, I tried pip install --upgrade google-cloud-vision as well but does not seems to work
my python version is Python 3.10.0
kindly let me know if there's any issue or missing information in my question
thank you!!
I'm pretty sure you messed up with the venv, since it worked fine for me. Try using PyCharm (if you don't already do) and setup a venv, or install virtualenv and launch these commands inside your project folder:
virtualenv venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip install google-cloud-vision
python your_file.py
deactivate
Last one is to properly exit the venv
I am in need of some help with the below. Using Python 3 code on Windows 10. Written in Spyder over Anaconda install and custom environment.
I have some code that runs in Spyder but not Anaconda Prompt. It gets a ModuleNotFoundError. The directory/file structure is like this:
my_python
smb_bau
etl
init.py
etl_globals.py
init.py
my_config.conf
my_connections.py
my_definitions.py
init.py
(underscores round init not displaying for some reason)
Some notes before the problematic code:
It's just test code for now that will be replaced with the real hive code later.
The code works when all the files are in one foler.
Th my_ prefixes are just to avoid any word that might cause issues while testing.
In my_connections I have this code:
class hive_connection:
def __init__(self):
self.my_name = None
self.my_town = None
import configparser
from smb_bau.my_definitions import CONFIG_PATH
config = configparser.ConfigParser()
config.read(CONFIG_PATH)
my_details = config["my_details"]
self.my_name = my_details["my_name"]
self.my_town = my_details["my_town"]
And this is what's in my_definitions:
import os
ROOT_DIR = os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(__file__))
CONFIG_PATH = os.path.join(ROOT_DIR, 'my_config.conf')
(I gratefully stole this from another thread to solve the issue of getting config info from a different folder).
The file I run is etl_globals which contains this code:
from smb_bau.my_connections import hive_connection
hive = hive_connection()
print(hive.my_name, hive.my_town)
When I run etl_globals in Spyder it works perfectly. But it fails in Anaconda Prompt.
I open up Anaconda Prompt, activate my environment, navigate to the etl folder, and enter python etl_globals.py
The error message I get is:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "etl_globals.py", line 1, in
from smb_bau.my_connections import hive_connection
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'smb_bau'
I don't understand why the import of modules works in Spyder but not Anaconda Prompt.
The overarching goal is to be able to not have all the files in one folder.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Many thanks.
Edit:
Just to be sure what the issue is I simplified it to create a file called my_functions (in the smb_bau folder) with this in:
def fn_test():
print(5)
And a file in the etl folder called my_test with this in:
from smb_bau.my_functions import fn_test
fn_test()
And got the same error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "my_test.py", line 1, in
from smb_bau.my_functions import fn_test
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'smb_bau'
Why does from smb_bau.my_functions import xxx work in Spyder but not Anaconda prompt?
Also, this may be relevant: the only reason there is a folder called my_python at the top is that I was getting an error saying no module named smb_bau. So I moved it all down a level and then it would accept smb_bau as a module but only in Spyder).
I also just checked PYTHONPATH and the root folder is there.
I have only been using Python for a week so I'm sure there are other bit of my code that aren't great -- but it does work in the spyder client.
Thanks and sorry if any of this is unclear.
I have a package that I would like to automatically install and use from within my own Python script.
Right now I have this:
>>> # ... code for downloading and un-targzing
>>> from subprocess import call
>>> call(['python', 'setup.py', 'install'])
>>> from <package> import <name>
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named <package>
Then I can continue like this:
>>> exit()
$ python
>>> from <package> import <name>
And it works just fine. For some reason, Python is able to pick up the package just fine if I restart after running the setup.py file, but not if I don't. How can I make it work without having the restart step in the middle?
(Also, is there a superior alternative to using subprocess.call() to run setup.py within a python script? Seems silly to spawn a whole new Python interpreter from within one, but I don't know how else to pass that install argument.)
Depending on your Python version, you want to look into imp or importlib.
e.g. for Python 3, you can do:
from importlib.machinery import SourceFileLoader
directory_name = # os.path to module
# where __init__.py is the module entry point
s = SourceFileloader(directory_name, __init__.py).load_module()
or, if you're feeling brave that your Python path knows about the directory:
map(__import__, 'new_package_name')
Hope this helps,
I downloaded from seaborn from GitHub.
Through command prompt, cd to downloads\seaborn folder
python install setup.py
Then using spyder from anaconda, checked if it was installed by running the following in a console
import pip
sorted(["%s==%s" % (i.key, i.version)
for i in pip.get_installed_distributions()])
Seeing that it was not there, go to tools and select "Update module names list"
Again trying the previous code in a python console, the lib was still not showing.
Restarting Spyder and trying import seaborn worked.
Hope this helps.
I am having the same problem as this thread regarding twilio-python:
twilio.rest missing from twilio python module version 2.0.8?
However I have the same problem but I have 3.3.3 installed. I still get "No module named rest" when trying to import twilio.rest.
Loading the library from stand alone python script works. So I know that pip installing the package worked.
from twilio.rest import TwilioRestClient
def main():
account = "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
token = "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
client = TwilioRestClient(account, token)
call = client.calls.create(to="+12223344",
from_="+12223344",
url="http://ironblanket.herokuapp.com/",
method="GET")
if __name__ == "__main__":
main()
but this does not work:
from twilio.rest import TwilioRestClient
def home(request):
client = TwilioRestClient(account, token)
Do you have any idea what I can try next?
I named a python file in my project twilio.py. Since that file was loaded first, then subsequent calls to load twilio would reference that file instead of the twilio library.
TLDR: just don't name your python file twilio.py
Check which versions of pip and python you are running with this command:
which -a python
which -a pip
pip needs to install to a path that your Python executable can read from. Sometimes there will be more than one version of pip like pip-2.5, pip-2.7 etc. You can find all of them by running compgen -c | grep pip. There can also be more than one version of Python, especially if you have Macports or brew or multiple versions of Python installed.
Check which version of the twilio module is installed by running this command:
$ pip freeze | grep twilio # Or pip-2.7 freeze etc.
The output should be twilio==3.3.3.
I hope that helps - please leave a comment if you have more questions.
This Worked For me : (Windows)
Python librarys are in G:\Python\Lib
(Python is installed at G:, it might be different for you)
Download Twilio from github at paste the library at >> G:\Python\Lib <<
import problem gone :)
I had the same issue and it drove me crazy. Finally I figured it out. When you get the error:
AttributeError: module 'twilio' has no attribute 'version'
Look 2 lines above and the error is telling you where it expects to find the twilio file. So I moved it from where it was to where it was asking it to be.
Installed to:
c:\users\rhuds\appdata\local\programs\python\python37-32\lib\site-packages
Moved it to:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 1, in
import twilio
File "C:\Users\rhuds\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python37-32\twilio.py", line 2, in
Now I can import twilio. Besides that, the only other thing I did was uninstall old versions of Python, but I don't think that really mattered.
I'm fairly new to Python, so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.
I have been using the Topia TermExtract package, and the code I wrote has been working fine on my local machine (Mac OS 10.6.5; Python 2.6). However, when I copy the entire directory, complete with package files, to my GoDaddy hosting, I get this error:
File "test.py", line 2, in ?
from topia.termextract import extract
File "/home/DIRECTORY_HERE/topia/__init__.py", line 1, in ?
import pkg_resources
ImportError: No module named pkg_resources
I'm not sure what I need to do to make this work. Here is the script I wrote:
import sys
from topia.termextract import extract
extractor = extract.TermExtractor()
extractor
extractor.filter = extract.DefaultFilter(singleStrengthMinOccur=1)
# join array into string from command-line arguments.
str = ' '.join(sys.argv)
x = extractor(str)
print "\nExtracted text:\n"
# for each extracted word, print it out.
for i in range(0, len(x)):
if ((x[i][0])[-3:] != ".py"):
print x[i][0]
print "\n"
Thanks!
The pkg_resources package is part of setuptools. Install that on the hosting.
I got it. I had to install VirtualEnv. If anyone has a similar problem, check out this post:
