I want the user to be able to download a txt file that contains results of a sql query. I've seen answers speaking about using send_file or Response but all of those answers seem to require that I have the file stored?
Currently I have:
#RateRevisionEndorsements_blueprint.route('/_getEndorsements', methods = ['GET'])
def get_endorsements():
guid = request.args.get('guid')
client = Client()
# Save query results
result = client.getEndorsementFile(bookGuid = guid)
with open('tesult.txt', 'w') as r:
for i in result:
r.write(i)
return send_file("result.txt", as_attachment=True)
The button to generate this route works and I have no issue receiving the query results (currently stored as a list but I can make it whatever works best), but I receive the error FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C"\\..\\app\\result.txt'
Which makes me think that I need it to have stored somewhere on the server to pull from.
Just send the data as a streaming response. Make sure to set the proper mime type so that the browser will initiate a download.
Exactly send_file sent files that are stored.
Sent it with the
Respone(file,mimetype=“txt/plain”)

I am stuck with this problem that I have had for a while.
I have code here that is intended to upload a file to a web server.
class uploadFile_Functions():
def __init__(self, DESTINATION_URL, TARGET_FILE):
self.DESTINATION_URL = DESTINATION_URL
self.TARGET_FILE = TARGET_FILE
def uploadFile_WebServ(self):
dest_site = self.DESTINATION_URL
t_file = self.TARGET_FILE
with open(t_file,'rb') as f:
print('Uploading the file to the server')
upload_req = requests.post(dest_site, files={t_file:f})
print('Upload successful')
The dest_site will contain the link to the webpage folder that I have, and the t_file will contain the file to be uploaded.
What happens is that when I run this code, there were no errors thrown during runtime, and the shell printed the 'Upload successful' statement. But I checked the webpage folder in chrome, and the file is not even there.
I do not know if this needs some sort of authentication since this is a web server. I was able to get a file from the same webpage folder using the GET method, but no success so far with the POST method.
I appreciate any answer that I get from you guys. Thank you!
I'm trying to send a file from my Flask app through send_file() or send_from_directory() without success.
The request returns a response with status_code=200 but no file is being downloaded. I have verified the functions work as they return errors when the file or directory does not exist
This is the last line of my function. It handles POST requests and should return a file after it has been saved.
# openpyxl stuff above
wb.save(app.instance_path + '/path/to/file/spreadsheet.xlsx')
return send_file(current_dir + '/path/to/file/spreadsheet.xlsx')
This is what is returned from the server
127.0.0.1 - - [21/Apr/2019 20:05:26] "POST /api/admin/export_bookings HTTP/1.1" 200 -
I verified that the file is indeed being created and saved, and I have verified that the above last line returns an error if the path is wrong or if the file doesn't exist.
Why is this happening?
Your form has enctype = "multipart/form-data"?
Did you check if the file exists in the request?
Figured it out. I am using axios to handle my POST requests. It seems javascript POST requests do not have the ability to return files.
I have found a workaround by returning the '/path/to/file/spreadsheet.xlsx' to my javascript as JSON and calling window.open() with that path.
I then only had to create a standard Flask GET route #bp.route('/path/to/file/<filename>) that returns the file from the directory by the url using that send_file() function.
I also came across this kind of problem.
I am also using flask and send_file() library to send the file to UI for a user to download.
I was just sending file using flask as below.
#app.run('/download_any_file',methods=['POST'])
def download():
path='folder_path_where_file_exist'
filename='abcde.xlsx' # i am getting this filename from UI
full_path=path+'/'+ filename
return send_file(full_path,as_attachment=True)
I was getting some response from this API but UI was not able to consume this response for some reason.
added a snip of Response I was getting with above code:
After going through documentation https://tedboy.github.io/flask/generated/flask.send_file.html, i found that one parameter 'mimetype' for excel file(.xlsx) or (.xls) should be passed as a parameter. Note: mimetype for (.xlsx and .xls) are different plz follow this link to find mimetype for different files
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/archive/blogs/vsofficedeveloper/office-2007-file-format-mime-types-for-http-content-streaming-2.
I changed my code finally as below:
#app.run('/download_any_file',methods=['POST'])
def download():
path='folder_path_where_file_exist'
filename='abcde.xlsx' # i am getting this filename from UI
full_path=path+'/'+ filename
return send_file(full_path,as_attachment=True,mimetype='application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet')
Now same mime-type should be used in the UI side to catch and decode the response and put it in excel file to download.
In UI contentType should be the same mimetype which is used in flask send_file()
contentType = 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet';
This way you can download an excel file.
I'm very very new to python. I have a HTML code with POST method to upload a file, then I have python code to receive the file and save it to a FTP server. My python code so far is :
berkas = request.FILES['file']
filename = "test_send_file.jpg"
upload_folder = '/var/www/uploads/target_folder/'
handle_uploaded_file(join(upload_folder, filename), berkas)
Using those codes I got Permission Denied when uploading the file.
I know the missing part is where I have to set FTP server address and it's username & password, but I don't know how to that.
So, how to do it ?
Or, is there easier way to solve my "POST upload then save to FTP" problem ?
Thank you before.
I built a micro web service but I find it hangs a lot. By hang I mean all requests will just time out, when it hangs, I can see the process is running fine in server using only about 15MB memory as usual. I think it's a very interesting problem to post, the code is super simple, please tell me what I am doing wrong.
app = Bottle()
# static routing
#app.route('/')
def server_static_home():
return static_file('index.html', root='client/')
#app.route('/<filename>')
def server_static(filename):
return static_file(filename, root='client/')
#app.get('/api/data')
def getData():
data = {}
arrayToReturn = []
with open("data.txt", "r") as dataFile:
entryArray = json.load(dataFile)
for entry in entryArray:
if not entry['deleted']:
arrayToReturn.append(entry)
data["array"] = arrayToReturn
return data
#app.put('/api/data')
def changeEntry():
jsonObj = request.json
with open("data.txt", "r+") as dataFile:
entryArray = json.load(dataFile)
for entry in entryArray:
if entry['id'] == jsonObj['id']:
entry['val'] = jsonObj['val']
dataFile.seek(0)
json.dump(entryArray, dataFile, indent=4)
dataFile.truncate()
return {"success":True}
run_simple('0.0.0.0', 80, app, use_reloader=True)
Basically mydomain.com is route to my index.html and load necessary JS, CSS files, that's what static routing part is doing. Once page is loaded, an ajax GET request is fired to /api/data to load data and when I modify data, it fires another ajax Put request to /api/data to modify data.
How to reproduce
It's very easy to reproduce the hang, I just need to visit mydomain.com and refresh the page for 10-30 times rapidly, then it will stop responding. But I was never able to reproduce this locally how ever fast I refresh and data.txt is the same on my local machine.
Update
Turns out it's not problem with read/write to file but a problem with trying to write to broken pipe. The client that sent request close the connection before receiving all the data. I'm looking into solution now...
It looks like you are trying to open and read the same data.txt file with every PUT request. Eventually you are going to run into concurrency issues with this architecture as you will have multiple requests trying to open and write to the same file.
The best solution is to persist the data to a database (something like MySQL, Postgres, Mongodb) instead of writing to a flat file on disk.
However, if you must write to a flat file, then you should write to a different file per request where the name of the file could be the jsonObj['id'], This way you avoid the problem of multiple requests trying to read/write to the same file at the same time.
Reading and writing to your data.txt file will be victim as race conditions as Calvin mentions. Databases are pretty easy in python especially with libraries like SqlAlchemy. But if you insist, you can also use a global dictionary and a lock assuming your webserver is not running as multiple processes. Something like
entryArray = {}
mylock = threading.Lock()
#app.put('/api/data')
def changeEntry():
jsonObj = request.json
with mylock.lock:
for entry in entryArray:
if entry['id'] == jsonObj['id']:
entry['val'] = jsonObj['val']
All the examples I can find on google endpoint api (e.g., tic-tac-toe sample) show strings, integers, enums, etc fields. None of the examples say anything about how to specify document (e.g., image or zip files) uploads or downloads using the API. Is this not possible?
If this is possible, can anyone share a code snippet on how to define google endpoint api on the server to allow downloads and uploads of files? For example, is there a way to set HTTPResponse headers to specify that an endpoint response will serve a zip file? How do we include the zip file in the response?
An example with python or php would be appreciated. If anyone from the endpoints-proto-datastore team is watching this discussion, please say whether or not file downloads are supported in endpoints at the moment. We hate to waste our time trying to figure this out if it is simply impossible. Thanks.
We are seeking a complete example for upload and download. We need to store the key for the uploaded file in our database during upload and retrieve it for download. The client app sends a token that the API needs to use to figure out what file to download. Hence, we would need to store the blob key generated during the upload process in our database. Our database would have the mapping between the token and the blob file's key.
class BlobDataFile(models.Model):
data_code = models.CharField(max_length=10) # Key used by client app to request file
blob_key = models.CharField()
By the way, our app is written in Django 1.7 with a mysql (modeled with models.Model) database. It is infuriating that all the examples for Google App Engine upload I can find is written for a standalone webapp Handlers (no urls.py/views.py solutions could be found anywhere). Hence, building a standalone uploader is as much of a challenge as writing the API code. If your solution has full urls.py/views.py example for uploading files and saving the blob_key in our BlobDataFile, it would be good enough for us.
f you use the blobstore use the get_serving_url function to read the images from url in the client, or use the messages.ByteField in the ResourceContainer and serialize the image with base64.b64decode
#the returned class
class Img(messages.Message):
message = messages.BytesField (1)
#The api class
#endpoints.api(name='helloImg', version='v1')
class HelloImgApi(remote.Service):
ID_RESOURCE = endpoints.ResourceContainer(
message_types.VoidMessage,
id=messages.StringField(1, variant=messages.Variant.STRING))
#endpoints.method(ID_RESOURCE, Img,
path='serveimage/{id}', http_method='GET', #ID is the blobstore key
name='greetings.getImage')
def image_get(self, request):
try:
blob_reader = blobstore.BlobReader(blob_key)
value = blob_reader.read()
return Img(message=value)
except:
raise endpoints.NotFoundException('image %s not found.' %
(request.id,))
APPLICATION = endpoints.api_server([HelloImgApi])
And this is the response (save it in the client with the proper format)
{

}
in the client you can do this (in python for continuity)
import base64
myFile = open("mock.jpg", "wb")
img = base64.b64decode(value) #value is the returned string
myFile.write(img)
myFile.close()
Did you try converting the image to base64 string and send it as an argument of your request on the client side?
So you will be able to do that on the server side :
#strArg is the Base64 string sent from the client
img = base64.b64decode(strArg)
filename = 'someFileName.jpg'
with open(filename, 'wb') as f:
f.write(img)
#then you can save the file to your BlobStore
