I am using pip in Ubuntu 20.04 with Python 3.8. I am trying to upgrade some packages and it seems to work since it does not give any error message. However, if I do pip show for the desired package, the version remains unchanged.
For instance, in the case of pip itself I am doing the following:
python -m pip install --upgrade pip
And I am obtaining:
Collecting pip
Using cached pip-20.3.3-py2.py3-none-any.whl (1.5 MB)
Installing collected packages: pip
Successfully installed pip-20.3.3
Then, when I try to check the installed version with pip show pip, I get the following:

I have observed this problem also for scipy. However, I have been able to upgrade virtualenv and seaborn following the same procedure described above.
On the other hand, if I do the same upgrade process using sudo it does work. However, I would like to have the new versions installed not only for superuser.

You may have multiple installations of Python on your system.
First provide the full name for Python 3.8 when installing pip to make sure it is installing pip for 3.8.
python3.8 -m pip install --upgrade pip
You could also try to use the pip specifically for Python 3.8. It is usually called pip3.8.
It could also be the environment you are installing it in. It's better to use pip --version so that you know where it is pulling pip from, as well the version of Python being used.
pip3.8 --version
pip 20.3.3 from /home/eandersson/.local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/pip (python 3.8)
As you can see here depending on the user and env variables set it may be installed in a different location.
sudo pip3.8 --version
pip 20.2.3 from /usr/local/lib/python3.8/dist-packages/pip (python 3.8)
I would also recommend that you use a virtualenv if you need specific versions libraries installed for your project.
virtualenv venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip install pip --upgrade
Does anyone know how to properly install tensorflow on Windows?
I'm currently using Python 3.7 (also tried with 3.6) and every time I get the same "Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement tensorflow-gpu (from versions: )

I tried installing using pip and anaconda, both don't work for me.
Found a solution, seems like Tensorflow doesn't support versions of python after 3.6.4. This is the version I'm currently using and it works.
Tensorflow or Tensorflow-gpu is supported only for 3.5.X versions of Python. Try installing with any Python 3.5.X version. This should fix your problem.
Here is what i did to get tensorflow working with windows.
Download python 3.7.0 (64 bit from Python Releases for Windows) Install it and check python version by running below command in cmd:
python --version
Python 3.7.0
Then run below command to upgrade pip to latest
python -m pip install --upgrade pip
Now install tensorflow using pip
pip install tensorflow
That's it you have installed tensorflow on windows. Below image shows what happens when you type above commands

Unfortunately, tensorflow can't installed correctly on python 3.7 and last version of anaconda: so, the best and effective way to do this is to downgrade your python to python 3.6.7 use the next steps:
1- download the latest version of Anaconda
use Anaconda prompt with administrator privilege
2- conda install python=3.6.7 (need a long time)
3-conda install tensorflow
4- conda install keras
5- conda install numpy
Check whether you have a CPU or GPU, if your system doesn't have GPU, then it will generate error.
If you are going to install tensorflow using Windows command prompt (assuming python is already installed), then just run the following command. Go to the root directory, preferably 'C:' drive then run
For GPU- pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow-gpu
For CPU- pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow
If you are using Anaconda, then open Anaconda Navigator->Environments->Select 'All' from the drop down menu and then search TensorFlow. If you are using CPU, then select 'tensorflow', else for GPU select 'tensorflow-gpu'. Then click Apply.

As of Feb 2020, Tensorflow is not supported for Python 3.8+

Tensorflow pip installation for python version 3.5-3.8 requires pip 19.0 or later, as mentioned in the official tensorflow documentation.

You mentioned Anaconda. Do you run your python through there?
If so check in Anaconda Navigator --> Environments, if your current environment have got tensorflow installed.
If not, install tensorflow and run from that environment.
Should work.
I had the same problem that yours, happened that I had python at version 3.7. So for installing the Tensorflow with the GPU support I used:
py -3.6 -m pip install tensorflow-gpu

I think that this solution is better than downgrade the Python version.
Actually the easiest way to install tensorflow is:
install python 3.5 (not 3.6 or 3.7) you can check wich version you have by typing "python" in the cmd.
When you install it check in the options that you install pip with it and you add it to variables environnement.
When its done just go into the cmd and tipe "pip install tensorflow"
It will download tensorflow automatically.
If you want to check that it's been installed type "python" in the cmd then some that ">>>" will appear, then you write "import tensorflow" and if there's no error, you've done it!
As of November 2018, Tensorflow is not supported for Python 3.6.4+
What to do:
Downgrade Anaconda's Python from 3.7 or 3.6.5+ to 3.6.4
a. Open Command Prompt, find your Anaconda environment, and change your directory
where anaconda or where python
Example path and cd:
cd C:\ProgramData\Anaconda3\bin
b. While in anaconda3/bin in your Command Prompt, source activate your base Anaconda environment
source activate
c. In your Command Prompt, downgrade your base Anaconda environment
conda install python=3.6.4
d. Install Tensorflow

As of July 2019, I have installed it on python 3.7.3 using py -3 -m pip install tensorflow-gpu
py -3 in my installation selects the version 3.7.3.
The installation can also fail if the python installation is not 64 bit. Install a 64 bit version first.

I installed the latest version of Python (3.6.4 64-bit) and the latest version of PyCharm (2017.3.3 64-bit). Then I installed some modules in PyCharm (Numpy, Pandas, etc), but when I tried installing Tensorflow it didn't install, and I got the error message:

The latest requirements for running TensorFlow are documented in the installation documentation.
TensorFlow only supports 64-bit Python
TensorFlow only supports certain versions of Python (for example, Python 3.6 is not supported)
So, if you're using an out-of-range version of Python (older or newer) or a 32-bit version, then you'll need to use a different version.
I installed it successfully by pip install https://storage.googleapis.com/tensorflow/mac/cpu/tensorflow-1.8.0-py3-none-any.whl
There are a few important rules to install Tensorflow:
You have to install Python x64. It doesn't work with x86/32b and it gives the same error as yours.
Python versions later than 3.8 and Python 3.8 requires TensorFlow 2.2 or later. Check for supported Python versions.
For example, for TensorFlow 2.9, you can install Python3.8.6-64bit and it works like a charm. Check the latest information on the website.
if you are using anaconda, python 3.7 is installed by default, so you have to downgrade it to 3.6:
conda install python=3.6
then:
pip install tensorflow
it worked for me in Ubuntu.

Tensorflow 2.2.0 supports Python3.8
First, make sure to install Python 3.8 64bit. For some reason, the official site defaults to 32bit. Verify this using python -VV (two capital V, not W). Then continue as usual:
python -m pip install --upgrade pip
python -m pip install wheel # not necessary
python -m pip install tensorflow
As usual, make sure you have CUDA 10.1 and CuDNN installed.
Tensorflow isn't available for python 3.8 (as of Dec 4th 2019) according to their documentation page. You will have to downgrade to python 3.7.
I am using python 3.6.8, on ubunu 18.04, for me the solution was to just upgrade pip
pip install --upgrade pip
pip install tensorflow==2.1.0
Uninstalling Python and then reinstalling solved my issue and I was able to successfully install TensorFlow.

So here's the message that I got on a M1 Pro while I was executing

Any over version 3.9.x there is no support for TensorFlow 2. If you are installing packages via pip with 3.9, you simply get a "package doesn't exist" message. After reverting to the latest 3.8.x. Thought I would drop this here, I will update when 3.9.x is working with Tensorflow 2.x
Apple Silicon (M1+ Chip)
If you are using a Mac with an M1 chip or higher, you need to install Tensorflow metal plugin for compatability with your architecture.

Looks like the problem is with Python 3.8. Use Python 3.7 instead. Steps I took to solve this.
Created a python 3.7 environment with conda
List item Installed rasa using pip install rasa within the environment.
Worked for me.

I had this problem on my macOS (with M1 Pro) even with the latest 64-bit Python and the latest pip installed. This is how I've solved it. Try to run:
pip install tensorflow-macos
If you will get the error ending like this (like I did)...

Tensorflow seems to need special versions of tools and libs.
Pip only takes care of python version.
To handle this in a professional way (means it save tremendos time for me and others)
you have to set a special environment for each software like this.
An advanced tool for this is conda.
I installed Tensorflow with this commands:

use python version 3.6 or 3.7 but the important thing is you should install the python version of 64-bit.
In case you are using Docker, make sure you have
FROM python:x.y.z
instead of
FROM python:x.y.z-alpine.
This issue also happens with other libraries such as matplotlib(which doesn't support Python > 3.9 for some functions) let's just use COLAB.

I solved the same problem with python 3.7 by installing one by one all the packages required
Here are the steps:
Install the package
See the error message:
couldn't find a version that satisfies the requirement -- the name of the module required
Install the module required.
Very often, installation of the required module requires the installation of another module, and another module - a couple of the others and so on.
This way I installed more than 30 packages and it helped. Now I have tensorflow of the latest version in Python 3.7 and didn't have to downgrade the kernel.
I downloaded the latest stable Anaconda install off the Continuum website which turned out to be Anaconda 4.3.1 (64-bit) and comes with Python 3.6.0. I am in a Windows 10 environment.
However pip3 is missing and I cannot install any Python 3.x packages via pip3.
What am I doing wrong?
If you do not have another environment installed python 3+ will default to just pip I believe since pip3 is just an alias for pip.
pip install --upgrade pip
or You can do it with the associated Python binary too; if it executable as python3, then use that:
python3 -m pip install --upgrade pip
after that check:

After searching a lot and trying to install and reinstall Python, i found the solution was very simple
use the following for windows
python -m pip install --upgrade https://storage.googleapis.com/tensorflow/mac/cpu/tensorflow-0.12.0-py3-none-any.whl
change to following on mac
python3 -m pip install --upgrade https://storage.googleapis.com/tensorflow/mac/cpu/tensorflow-0.12.0-py3-none-any.whl
for Anaconda use corresponding conda
Tensorflow now works with python 3.6.4, don't use python builds that came after 3.6.4 and most importantly tensorflow doesn't work on Python 3.7.2. You can download 3.6.4 for windows from here python 3.6.4.
Then just simply run pip install tensorflow-gpu
At the time of this writing, there is no official support for TensorFlow with Python 3.6 on Windows. The recommendation is to build TensorFlow yourself.
Some people have already done this and provide *.whl files that you can directly install with pip. These are unofficial, so use at your own risk:

You can simply download them and install them with pip install <filename>.whl.

I was having Python 3.6 and was facing the issue as "No module named tensorflow" on "pip install tensorflow". Turned out as my machine was of 64 bit while the Python 3.6 version installed was for 32 bit. Uninstalled it, reinstalled the Python 3.6 x64 version, pip installed tensorflow, problem solved.
Tensorflow is now supported on Python 3.6. Just make sure that the Python installation is 64 bit on a 64 bit machine and that pip is the latest (pip install --upgrade pip).
After that (pip install --upgrade tensorflow) works like a charm.

Windows batch file for installing TensorFlow and Python 3.5 on Windows. The issue is that as of this date, TensorFlow is not updated to support Python 3.6+ and will not install. Additionally, many systems have an incompatible version of Python. This batch file should create a compatible environment without effecting other Python installs. See REM comments for assumptions.

Be sure the above PATH is used when invoking TensorFlow.
Follow these steps to install ternsorflow:
(step 1) conda create -n py35 python=3.5
(step 2) activate py35
(step 3) conda create -n tensorflow
(step 4,only for GPU) pip install --ignore-installed --upgrade https://storage.googleapis.com/tensorflow/windows/gpu/tensorflow_gpu-1.1.0-cp35-cp35m-win_amd64.whl
Just found Tensorflow 1.1 for python 3.6 on windows x64 (including GPU version, but i tested only cpu): http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#tensorflow. Unofficial apparently, but worked for me when I import tensorflow or tflearn in my code. They have scipy for windows there and bunch of other packages.
For some reason pip install URL returns code 404, so the installation would be the following:
1) Download protobuf whl package from here: http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/vu0h7y4r/protobuf-3.3.0-py3-none-any.whl
2) pip install {DownloadFolder}\protobuf-3.3.0-py3-none-any.whl
3) Download TF whl file: http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/vu0h7y4r/tensorflow-1.1.0-cp36-cp36m-win_amd64.whl
4) pip install {DownloadFolder}\tensorflow-1.1.0-cp36-cp36m-win_amd64.whl
It worked for me.
For someone w/ TF 1.3:
Current TensorFlow 1.3 support Python 3.6, and then you need cuDNN 6 (cudnn64_6.dll)

On 2/22/18, when I tried the official recommendation:
pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow
I got this error
Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement tensorflow
But instead using
pip install --upgrade tensorflow
installed it ok. (I ran it from the ps command prompt.)
I have 64-bit windows 10, 64-bit python 3.6.3, and pip3 version 9.0.1.
Tensor flow on 32 bit machine.
There is no official build out for 32 bit, but still there is a workaround for that, follow the link http://cudamusing.blogspot.in/2015/11/building-tensorflow-for-jetson-tk1.html. I would not suggest doing this big reason is its not possible to follow the process every time there is a change in official tensor flow code.
I had the same issue, but I followed the following steps:-
I had Python 3.6.5 (32 bit) installed on my desktop, but from all the research I did, I could conclude that Tensorflow runs only on Python 3.5x or 3.6x 64 bit versions. So I uninstalled it and Installed Python 3.5.0 instead.
I ran Python 3.5.0 as an administrator. This step is necessary for Windows as, without it, the system doesn't get any privileges and can't install tensorflow.
Install Pip3 using command:- python -m pip install --upgrade pip
Once the newest version (10.0.1 in my case) is installed, you can install tensorflow usin command:- pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow

Tensorflow is not compatible with python3.7 and spyder3.3.1
To work with stable tensorflow version
follow the procedure
windows-->search-->Anaconda prompt-->right click -->click Run as adminstrator
Below command create the virtual environment which does not disturb existing projects
conda create -n projectname
Below command activates your virtual environment within this directory installed package will not disturb your existing project.
activate projectname
Below command installs python 3.6.7 and spyder 3.2.3 as well
conda install spyder=3.2.3
Below mentioned tensorflow version works without any error. As per your need, you can install tensorflow version specifically.
pip install tensorflow==1.3.0
To open spyder
spyder
To exit form Virtual environment
deactivate

In short, install Anaconda, then open an anaconda terminal and type conda create --name tf_gpu tensorflow-gpu
You are then free to use the conda environment tf_gpu
Tensor flow has only support for python 2.7 3.4 3.5
Other python versions are not supported
So you please install the supported python version and try it again.
