Jupyter Notebook %matplotlib inline Not Working - python

I'm trying to use Jupyter notebook for the first time and following tutorials, but I'm having trouble getting plots to actually draw. I'm using the %matplotlib inline command, and its not giving me an error, but it's not drawing any plots either.
My notebook is:
%matplotlib inline
import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
In [2]:
df = pd.read_csv('election results.csv', index_col='ons_id')
In [3]:
df['valid_votes-2015'].plot
Out[3]:
<pandas.tools.plotting.SeriesPlotMethods object at 0x000002B03AFEF6A0>
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to call plot():
df['valid_votes-2015'].plot()
You just get the method object plot with:
df['valid_votes-2015'].plot
but you need to make it do something with the added parenthesis.

Matplotlib FuncAnimation not plotting any chart inside Jupyter Notebook

Simple matplotlib plot. Here is my code

Running the code above I get
<Figure size 576x396 with 0 Axes>
but no chart appears.
Are you using Jupyter notebooks to run it? I tried with native libraries and it works just fine. The plots are visible.
Checking here i see the same situation. Could you try to use %matplotlib inline before importing matplotlib as:
%matplotlib inline # this line before importing matplotlib
from matplotlib import pyplot as plt
That said, the animation can be displayed using JavaScript. This is similar to the ani.to_html5() solution, except that it does not require any video codecs.

Importing Matplotlib or Seaborn causes print statements to no longer output in terminal

I have a small Python program that reads from a CSV and prints out a single column (using VSCode).
import pandas as pd
fields = ['Name']
somedata_df = pd.read.csv("somedata.csv")
print(somedata_df[fields])
The above code works as intended and prints out the "Name" column. Simply adding import seaborn as sns or import matplotlib.pyplot as plt causes the program to run as usual with no warnings or errors, but it does not print anything to the terminal.
This issue arose from my exploration as to why I could not produce any plots in a different program. The same thing happened there - program ran without warnings or errors, but did not show any of the plots. No, I did not forget to use matplotlib.pyplot.show().
Even running this example code from Seaborn fails to display a plot:

sns.set()
tips = sns.load_dataset("tips")
sns.relplot(x="total_bill", y="tip", col="time",
hue="smoker", style="smoker", size="size",

What is causing this behavior?
Still unsure as to why plots do not show up, and why importing either Matplotlib or Seaborn causes the regular terminal to stop displaying outputs, but selecting the code, right-clicking it, and choosing "Run Selection/Line in Python Interactive Window" works both for the original print statement and any plotting.

I am trying to use IPython notebook on MacOS X with Python 2.7.2 and IPython 1.1.0.
I cannot get matplotlib graphics to show up inline.

It's now recommended that python notebook isn't started wit the argument --pylab, and according to Fernando Perez (creator of ipythonnb) %matplotlib inline should be the initial notebook command.

I found a workaround that is quite satisfactory. I installed Anaconda Python and this now works out of the box for me.
I did the anaconda install but matplotlib is not plotting
It starts plotting when i did this

You can simulate this problem with a syntax mistake, however, %matplotlib inline won't resolve the issue.
First an example of the right way to create a plot. Everything works as expected with the imports and magic that eNord9 supplied.
df_randNumbers1 = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randint(0,100,size=(100, 6)), columns=list('ABCDEF'))
df_randNumbers1.ix[:,["A","B"]].plot.kde()
However, by leaving the () off the end of the plot type you receive a somewhat ambiguous non-error.
Erronious code:
df_randNumbers1.ix[:,["A","B"]].plot.kde
Example error:
<bound method FramePlotMethods.kde of <pandas.tools.plotting.FramePlotMethods object at 0x000001DDAF029588>>
Other than this one line message, there is no stack trace or other obvious reason to think you made a syntax error. The plot doesn't print.
If you're using Jupyter notebooks in Visual Studio Code (VSCode) then the inline backend doesn't seem to work so you need to specify widget/ipympl (which you may need to install support for e.g. pip install ipympl):
%matplotlib widget

Why is Jupyter Notebook creating duplicate plots when making updating plots

I'm trying to make plots in a Jupyter Notebook that update every second or so. Right now, I just have a simple code which is working:

a = np.random.randint(100,size=100)
b = np.random.randint(100,size=100)
fig, ax = plt.subplots(2,1)

display.display(plt.gcf())
time.sleep(1.0)
Which updated the plots I have created every second. However, at the end, there is an extra copy of the plots:
Why is it doing this? And how can I make this not happen? Thank you in advance.
The inline backend is set-up so that when each cell is finished executing, any matplotlib plot created in the cell will be displayed.
You are displaying your figure once using the display function, and then the figure is being displayed again automatically by the inline backend.
The easiest way to prevent this is to add plt.close() at the end of the code in your cell.
Another alternative would be to add ; at the end of the line! I am experiencing the same issue with statsmodels methods to plot the autocorrelation of a time series (statsmodels.graphics.tsaplot.plot_acf()):
from statsmodels.graphics.tsaplots import plot_acf
plot_acf(daily_outflow["count"]);
Despite using %matplotlib inline, it's not working for some libraries, such as statsmodels. I recommend always use plt.show() at the end of your code.

How to make IPython notebook matplotlib plot inline
