I am working with the results from infra sound detectors but sometimes they have glitches so the data points are recorded as '0'. This is worthless data. I want to be able to search the file for '0', count them and print out that result.
All I have been able to do so far is search the file for '0' and get a true/false answer.
This is my code:

Scan the file line by line, counting the lines with just '0':

The Python bool type is a subclass of int, and True is equal to 1, False is 0, so you can sum the booleans to get a count.
If you needed a percentage, you need to count lines and 0-counts separately:

zeros += 1
total += 1

I am trying to read all the lines in a specific file, and it prints the number of the line as an index.
What I am trying to do is to delete the line by inputting the number of the line by the user.
As far as it is now, it prints all the lines with the number of that line, but when I enter the number of the line to be deleted, it's not deleted.

The function returns 1234.
why doesn't total += int(i) add up all the integers?
It is highly recommended to read files in a with statement. That frees you from the responsibility of closing the file and is also shorter! This works:

Your file has one line.
You're adding all ints from each line.
If you want to add 1,2,3,4 with that method move them to new lines
Also, you can do the same thing with this

I am having an issue getting the train function to work correctly in python. I can not modify the def function. I am at the point where I need to get the second file to read lines one at a time for PosList and i need to match the value of movieWordCount[z] in OpenPos. If the file is there, then I am good to incrment column 2 by one of t hat line (segmented by a space). If it is not, then I need the else to append it to the file end. It does not work. It does not append the values if it is missing and I am not sure if it will find the value if it is there. I have been stuck getting thsi to work for two days.

To open a file for writing, you can use
with open('PosList', 'w') as Open_Pos
As you are using the with form, you do not need to close the file; Python will do that for you at the end of the with-block.
So assuming that the way you add data to the lines variable is correct, you could remove the superfluous code OpenMovieList.close() and OpenPos.close(), and append 2 lines to your code:

I'm trying to create a function that accepts a file as input and prints the number of lines that are full-line comments (i.e. the line begins with #followed by some comments).
For example a file that contains say the following lines should print the result 2:

So far I tried along the lines of but just not picking up the hash symbol:

I re-worded a few statements for ease of use (subjective) but this will give you the desired output.

I am (attempting) to write a program that searches through a hex file for instances of a hex string between two values, eg. Between D4135B and D414AC, incrementing between the first value until the second is reached- D4135B, D4135C, D4135D etc etc.
I have managed to get it to increment etc, but it’s the search part I am having trouble with.
This is the code I have so far, it's been cobbled together from other places and I need to make it somehow output all search hits into the output file (file_out)
I have exceeded the limit of my Python understanding and I'm sure there's probably a much easier way of doing this. I would be very grateful for any help.

Here's a program that looks through a hex string from a file 3 bytes at a time and if the 3-byte hex string is between the given hex bounds, it writes it to another file. It makes use of generators to make getting the bytes from the hex string a little cleaner.
