I'm trying to run some code with python. It is using tweepy library. Then, I got this error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "script.py", line 1, in <module>
import tweepy
ImportError: No module named 'tweepy'
So, I tried to install dependency:
pip install tweepy
And it get permission denied:
ERROR: Could not install packages due to an EnvironmentError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/sockshandler.py'
Consider using the `--user` option or check the permissions.
Next thing to do is to run using sudo. I had a bad experience by using sudo for docker, because it creates protected files all over my local. But I finally tried it anyway sudo pip install tweepy
It returns success, but I still get the same error when I tried to run python3 myscript.py
But, I see some warning to upgrade the pip, so I think maybe that's it. I tried to upgrade pip using both pip install --upgrade pip and sudo pip install --upgrade pip
Still not working.. I tried one last trick up my sleeve. Change the terminal. I think, "maybe after installing, some environment variable not running on this terminal"
Nope. Not working. I admit it should be a newbie question. Having tried some solution on the web, but still not working. Thanks.
If you use python3, you should be using pip3, pip is most likely the python2 pip.
However, better is using python3 -m pip install tweepy that ensures you use the pip for your specific python version.
You can also install it as a user without sudo for just your local account:
python3 -m pip install --user tweepy
Look at the error message:
... Permission denied: '/usr/local/lib/python2.7 ....
You installed tweepy in your python2 Installation.
Use pip3 install tweepy instead. Maybe with sudo when you get the error with permission denied again. After that you can go with
python3 myscript.py
Use the --user flag, like so...
pip|pip3 install <PACKAGE> --user
This will install it in a location available and writeable to your user
See https://packaging.python.org/tutorials/installing-packages/#installing-to-the-user-site
You seems to have 2 python installations on the machine. Python 3.x and Python 2.7.
When you run the pip command , the alias points to pip2 which installs packages for Python 2.7 - which is clear in your error message
Permission denied: '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/sockshandler.py'
So if you want to install packages for python 3, then use the command pip3 instead of pip.
Like sudo pip3 install tweepy
If you want the pip to work as pip3 you can consider adding an alias with alias pip=pip3
You have to make sure the pip is pointing to right python version.
So I am trying to download pip for gRPC as given on grpc.io website. And I read many questions related to that but I am still not able to download pip. I am using mac with python (version 2.7.10).
when I write pip on console. It gives below error :-
bash: pip: command not found
I checked few questions and they were recommending easy_install pip but didn't work either.
One of my colleague recommended to use brew install pip as we have installed almost everything using brew.Got below error when I did that.
Error: No available formula with the name "pip"
Homebrew provides pip via:brew install python. However you will then
have two Pythons installed on your Mac, so alternatively you can install
pip via the instructions at:
https://pip.readthedocs.io/en/stable/installing/
I went on this link and it says to run curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py -o get-pip.py and after that, run this python get-pip.py.
I did this but it gives below thing :

Could you all suggest a way to download and use pip?
UPDATE
Earlier I was trying to install using sudo easy_install pip, it was giving an error. Now I tried doing it, it got installed. Thanks all for the help.
follow the following steps:
go to pypi website pip offcial account .
Download the source file. pip-18.1.tar.gz
Extract the file.
in command prompt run command :
python setup.py install
pip is installed now.
I am trying to install ggplot for Python using
pip install ggplot
but I get an error message saying
I am using Python2.7 on Windows8. I looked at the suggestions and among other things tried the suggestion here
pip install wheel to install support for wheel files.
pip install ggplot-0.11.5-py2.py3-none-any.whl to install the wheel. I downloaded the whl file from here.
Upon doing this I got further messages saying:
Failed building wheel for scipy
Failed cleaning build for scipy
In addition I still get the original error message.
Please provide suggestions.
After trying all possible things suggested in various forums this is what worked for me:
Download numpy-1.11.2+mkl-cp27-cp27m-win_amd64.whl and scipy-0.18.1-cp27-cp27m-win_amd64.whl files from http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#scipy to C:\Python27\Scripts directory.
Run the following commands from the DOS command window in windows
pip install numpy-1.11.2+mkl-cp27-cp27m-win_amd64.whl
pip install scipy-0.18.1-cp27-cp27m-win_amd64.whl
They were both successfully installed.
Finally
pip install ggplot
I want to use opencv under python 3 in Ubunto 14.04. I plan to use the PyCharm IDE to develop my program.
Inside PyCharm I choose, I set:
File/Settings/Project:HelloWorld/Project Interpreter/3.4.3(/usr/bin/python3.4)
Python 3.4.3 is the default version of python in Ubunto 14.04.
Then I try to add opencv-python package:
File/Settings/Project:HelloWorld/Project Interpreter/+ (where you add the package)
and the system gives me this error:
Executed command:
pip install opencv-python
Try to run this command from the system terminal. Make sure that you
use the correct version of 'pip' installed for your Python interpreter located at '/usr/bin/python3.4'.
DEPRECATION: --no-install, --no-download, --build, and --no-clean are deprecated. See https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/906.
Downloading/unpacking opencv-python
Could not find any downloads that satisfy the requirement opencv-python
Cleaning up...
No distributions at all found for opencv-python
Storing debug log for failure in /root/.pip/pip.log
the error is the same when I run the command from terminal. I believe the problem is related to installing opencv under python3 but I am not sure I know if I can fix it. Please let me know your opinion.
Thanks
The fix is to update your pip and try again. This worked for me.
So, first:
pip install --upgrade pip
after that:
pip install opencv-python
First, you should not use install opencv-python, this is not the official opencv package.
Please, see:
**SOLVED** How to include libgtk2.0-dev and pkg-config in cmake when installing openCV on Ubuntu 16
If you want to install opencv, you can follow this website, that worked for me. You might need to apapt some parts (mainly version numbers, and paths during the cmake process).
I also faced similar issue in the windows and pip upgrade worked for me,
pip install --upgrade pip
and install using below command,
pip install opencv-python
As far as I can see from querying pip (using pip search opencv) there is no package called opencv-python I think the one you're looking for is pyopencv.
this issue appears to be almost identical
I'm attempting to make a website with a few others for the first time, and have run into a weird error when trying to use Django/Python/VirtualEnv. I've found solutions to this problem for other operating systems, such as Ubuntu, but can't find any good solutions for Mac.
This is the relevant code being run:
virtualenv -p python3 venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt
After running that block, I get the following errors:
AssertionError
Failed building wheel for django-toolbelt
Running setup.py bdist_wheel for psycopg2
...
AssertionError
Failed building wheel for psycopg2
Failed to build django-toolbelt psycopg2
I believe I've installed the "django-toolbelt" and "psycopg2", so I'm not sure why it would be failing.
The only difference I can think of is that I did not use the command
sudo apt-get install libpq-dev
as was instructed for Ubuntu usage as I believe that installing postgresql with brew took care of the header.
Thanks for any help or insight!
For MacOS users
After trying all the above methods (which did not work for me on MacOS 10.14), that one worked :
Install openssl with brew install openssl if you don't have it already.
add openssl path to LIBRARY_PATH :
export LIBRARY_PATH=$LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/opt/openssl/lib/
install psycopg2 with pip pip3 install psycopg2
I had the same problem on Arch linux. I think that it's not an OS dependant problem. Anyway, I fixed this by finding the outdated packages and updating then.
pip uninstall psycopg2
pip list --outdated
pip install --upgrade wheel
pip install --upgrade setuptools
pip install psycopg2
I was also getting same error.
Using Python 3.7.3 and pip 19.1.1.
I used following command.
pip install psycopg2-binary==2.8.3
TDLR
If you aren't used to installing Python C-extensions, and psycopg2 isn't a core part of your work, try
pip install psycopg2-binary
Building Locally
psycopg2 is a C-extension, so it requires compilation when being installed by pip. The Build Prerequisites section of the docs explain what must be done to make installation via pip possible. In summary (for psycopg 2.8.5):
a C compiler must be installed on the machine
the Python header files must be installed
the libpq header files must be installed
the pg_config program must be installed (it usually comes with the libpq headers) and on $PATH.
With these prerequisites satisfied, pip install psycopg2 ought to succeed.
Installing pre-compiled wheels
Alternatively, pip can install pre-compiled binaries so that compilation (and the associated setup) is not required. They can be installed like this:
pip install psycopg2-binary
The docs note that
The psycopg2-binary package is meant for beginners to start playing with Python and PostgreSQL without the need to meet the build requirements.
but I would suggest that psycopg2-binary is often good enough for local development work if you are not using psycopg2 directly, but just as a dependency.
Concluding advice
Read the informative installation documentation, not only to overcome installation issues but also to understand the impact of using the pre-compiled binaries in some scenarios.
I had same problem and this appears to be a Mojave Issue, I was able to resolve with:
sudo installer -pkg /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/Packages/macOS_SDK_headers_for_macOS_10.14.pkg -target /
For Mac OS X users:
1. First check your postgresql path by running this command in terminal:
pg_config
If this fails lookup how to add pg_config to your path.
2. Next install Xcode Tools by running this command in terminal:
xcode-select --install
If you have both those sorted out now try to install psycopg2 again
For MacOS users, this question has the correct solution:
install command line tools if necessary:
xcode-select --install
then
env LDFLAGS="-I/usr/local/opt/openssl/include -L/usr/local/opt/openssl/lib" pip install psycopg2
I was also facing the same after running all the above commands, but the following two commands worked for me:
Instead of pip, use this:
sudo apt-get install libpq-dev
then run this command:
pip install psycopg2
On OS X, I was able to solve this by simply upgrading wheel before installing psycopg2:
pip install --upgrade wheel
For OSX Sierra users, it seems that an xcode update is the solution: Can't install psycopg2 package through pip install... Is this because of Sierra?
I tried all the above solutions but they did not work for me. What I did was change the psycopg2 version in my requirements.txt file from psycopg2==2.7.4 to psycopg2==2.7.6
Is your error message complete? the most encountered reason for failing to install psycopg2 on mac from pip is pg_config is not in path.
by the way, using macports or fink to install psycopg2 is more recommended way, so you don't have to worry about pg_config, libpq-dev and python-dev.
plus, are using Python 3.5? then upgrage your wheel to > 0.25.0 using pip.
I faced the same issue, but the answers above didn't work for me.
So this is what I did in my requirements.txt
psycopg2-binary==2.7.6.1 and it worked fine
I had this issue on several packages, including psycopg2, numpy, and pandas. I simply removed the version from the requirements.txt file, and it worked.
So instead of psycopg2-binary==2.7.6.1 I just had psycopg2-binary.
I know you are asking for development environment but if you are deploying on server say, Heroku. Just add below line in the requirements.txt of your project.
django-heroku==0.3.1
As this package itself will install the required packages like psycopg2 on server deployment. So let the server(heroku) should take care of it.
sudo apt install libpq-dev python3.X-dev
where X is the sub version,
these should be followed by :
pip install --upgrade wheel
pip install --upgrade setuptools
pip install psycopg2
Enjoy !!!
I solved my problem by updating/installing vs_BuildTools. The link to the software was given in the error itself.
Error Image
Fixed by installing python3.7-dev: sudo apt install python3.7-dev, based on the link.
Python: 3.7
Ubuntu: 20.04.3 LTS
