i've been searching about how to link visual basic with python file
i've tried so hard through using shell in Visual Basic but nothing happend
i have python file called Go.py and i want to link Visual Basic button with it and get the return into variable
any idea ?

First, you can use Shell, although it's unfortunately probably more complicated than you imagined.
Your current problem is a simple one - Shell can't run a python file directly, so you need to have Shell call cmd /c python.exe Go.py, and you may need to provide a full path to python.exe as well.
However, you also want to capture the result, and Shell only returns the process ID, not any kind of process output. You can check out some examples of external process invocation, although they don't explicitly cover how to capture output. If Go.py outputs to the terminal, you can probably capture the output into a file using standard Windows output redirection, and then open the file in VisualBasic and read the values.
You can also use System.Diagnostics.Process() instead of jumping through all the hoops of trying to get more functionality out of Shell. (Specifically, review the ProcessStartInfo class properties related to output redirection which give you much more control than anything using Shell will).

Debugging fails when reading input from file [duplicate]

I am developing FUSE filesystem with python. The problem is that after mounting a filesystem I have no access to stdin/stdout/stderr from my fuse script. I don't see anything, even tracebacks. I am trying to launch pdb like this:

pdb.Pdb(None, open('pdb.in', 'r'), open('pdb.out', 'w')).set_trace()
All works fine but very inconvenient. I want to make pdb.in and pdb.out as fifo files but don't know how to connect it correctly. Ideally I want to type commands and see output in one terminal, but will be happy even with two terminals (in one put commands and see output in another). Questions:
1) Is it better/other way to run pdb without stdin/stdout?
2) How can I redirect stdin to pdb.in fifo (All what I type must go to pdb.in)? How can I redirect pdb.out to stdout (I had strange errors with "cat pdb.out" but maybe I don't understand something)
Ok. Exactly what I want, has been done in http://pypi.python.org/pypi/rpdb/0.1.1 .
Before starting the python app
mkfifo pdb.in
mkfifo pdb.out
Then when pdb is called you can interact with it using these two cat commands, one running in the background
cat pdb.out & cat > pdb.in
Note the readline support does not work (i.e. up arrow)
I just ran into a similar issue in a much simpler use-case:
debug a simple Python program running from the command line that had a file piped into sys.stdin, meaning, no way to use the console for pdb.
I ended up solving it by using wdb.
Quick rundown for my use-case. In the shell, install both the wdb server and the wdb client:
pip install wdb.server wdb
Now launch the wdb server with:
wdb.server.py
Now you can navigate to localhost:1984 with your browser and see an interface listing all Python programs running. The wdb project page above has instructions on what you can do if you want to debug any of these running programs.
As for a program under your control, you can you can debug it from the start with:
wdb myscript.py --script=args < and/stdin/redirection
Or, in your code, you can do:
import wdb; wdb.set_trace()
This will pop up an interface in your browser (if local) showing the traced program.
Or you can navigate to the wdb.server.py port to see all ongoing debugging sessions on top of the list of running Python programs, which you can then use to access the specific debugging session you want.
Notice that the commands for navigating the code during the trace are different from the standard pdb ones, for example, to step into a function you use .s instead of s and to step over use .n instead of n. See the wdb README in the link above for details.

Batch Rendering file from a python script without openeing Maya

I have one Maya scene and a Python script where import obj files into it. I need to create a batch render file which calls the maya file and applies the script without opneing maya.
I have this code in a .sh file:

But I have this code into the script which can be an issue or maybe not:

If I execute this .sh file it renders without the python script. How can I add the python script?
I need that file for a renderfarm purposes
I know it's an old thread but thought I'd jump in just incase someone finds this thread in a search.
The comments seem a little confused. This comes from the fact that there are two different Python interpreters being talked about. The first is the system level one, which the original question seems to be talking about. In that case, you can use any of the various shell command launchers (like, subprocess/Popen) that suit your need. Here you are looking to run the render command like you would any other command in in the shell.
In the responses, people there are referring to the other interpreter, the custom Maya Python interpreter (mayapy.exe). In that case you are working with actual Maya libraries and it's the same as working with Python in it's shell, with the added Maya libraries/environment.
The two have different uses, the first is to control things like they were in the shell and the second is controlling things inside of a Maya context. Hope that clarifies things.

Writing a line to CMD in python

I am very new to Python and I have been trying to find a way to write in cmd with python.
I tried os.system and subprocess too. But I am not sure how to use subprocess.
While using os.system(), I got an error saying that the file specified cannot be found.
This is what I am trying to write in cmd os.system('cd '+path+'tesseract '+'a.png out')
I have tried searching Google but still I don't understand how to use subprocess.

It's not a problem with python anymore, I have figured out. Here is my code now.
os.system("cd C:\\Users\\User\\Desktop\\Folder\\data\\")
os.system("tesseract a.png out")
Now it says the file cannot be open. But if I open the cmd separately and write the above code, it successfully creates a file in the folder\data.
Each call to os.system is a separate instance of the shell. The cd you issued only had effect in the first instance of the shell. The second call to os.system was a new shell instance that started in the Python program's current working directory, which was not affected by the first cd invocation.
Some ways to do what you want:
1 -- put all the relevant commands in a single bash file and execute that via os.system
2 -- skip the cd call; just invoke your tesseract command using a full path to the file
3 -- change the directory for the Python program as a whole using os.chdir but this is probably not the right way -- your Python program as a whole (especially if running in a web app framework like Django or web2py) may have strong feelings about the current working directory.
The main takeaway is, os.system calls don't change the execution environment of the current Python program. It's equivalent to what would happen if you created a sub-shell at the command line, issued one command then exited. Some commands (like creating files or directories) have permanent effect. Others (like changing directories or setting environment variables) don't.

Issue with Python Batch file to run Python through Notepad++

EDIT: The code I wrote in my Python file was just this:
print "foo"
I'm using Windows XP Home Premium on this tiny little HP Mini 1000, and I want to run Python files, since we're learning it in school. I am aware of this topic, so I tried to run Python files using a batch file (python.bat), and I'm getting an error that says, "Can't find 'main' module in ''" whenever I run the batch file. I followed the instructions given here. All I did was change "Python26" to "Python33" because of the difference in versions.
Any idea what's wrong here? I really want to run Python files from Notepad++, so I don't want any alternative ways to run them.
This sounds like you don't have PYTHONPATH set up correctly. I suggest you review the documentation here:

Instead of calling Python, call cmd.exe and then use the set command to inspect which variables are set and how they are set. Run the exit command to leave the command shell. When you think you have the variables set up correctly, try again to run Python.

I use the command line interpreter or IDLE mostly (Win 8.1 now, but I've done so since Win XP SP2), but NPP is my main text editor, so I was curious about this issue.
When I was reproducing this, I was able to generate several errors, but the only one I got that was an exact match was when I failed to configure the Run option correctly.
You need to make sure to follow this step exactly in the instructions you were following. When you navigate to Run -> Run in Notepad++, you have to enter this exactly:
C:\Python33\python.bat "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
I am pretty sure you left out the "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)", or otherwise didn't add it correctly, as failing to do so causes exactly the same error on my end. Failing to include this means that when you run the batch script, you get the wrong input to the Python interpreter, causing the error.

How to get pycassaShell working in windows?

EDIT: I got it working, I went into the pycassa directory and typed python pycassaShell but the 2nd part of my question (at the bottom there) is still valid: how do I run a script in pycassaShell?
I recently installed Cassandra and pycassa and followed the instruction from here.
They work fine, except I cant get pycassaShell to load. When I type pycassaShell at the command prompt, I get
'pycassaShell' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Do I need to set up a path for it?
Also, does anyone know if you can run ddl scripts using pycassaShell? It is for this reason that I want to try it out. At the moment, I'm doing all my ddl in the cassandra CLI, I'd like to be able to put it in a script to automate it.
You probably don't want to be running scripts with pycassaShell. It's designed more as an interactive environment to quickly try things out. For serious scripts, I recommend just writing a normal python script that imports pycassa and sets up the connection pool and column families itself; it should only be an extra 5 or so lines.
However, there is an (undocumented, I just noticed) optional -f or --file flag that you can use. It will essentially run execfile() on that script after startup completes, so you can use the SYSTEM_MANAGER and CF variables that are already set up in your script. This is intended primarily to be used as a prep script for your environment, similar to how you might use a .bashrc file (I don't know of a Windows equivalent).
Regarding DDL statements, I suggest you look at the SystemManager class.
