I tried to install ESP-IDF and its tools with the Visual Studio Code extension but I got errors because there are spaces in my user name in Windows (I'm using Windows 10).
So I used the online installer version 2.16; it installed all the components in C:\Espressif. I set the system variable IDF_PATH to this location.
I open Visual Studio Code and the USE EXISTING SETUP option is available; it says:
"We have found ESP-IDF version: 4.4.2 #C:/Espressif/frameworks/esp-idf-v4.4.2/ and ESP-IDF tools in # C:\Espressif. Click here to use them."
It puts a check mark in:
Installing IDF Prerequisites...
Installing ESP-IDF...
Installing ESP-IDF Tools...
But it fails in Installing Python virtual environment for ESP-IDF...
The output window shows this:
idf_versions.txt has (1) KB
idf_versions.txt progress: 100.00% (0.10 / 0.10) KB
Installing ESP-IDF extension python packages in C:/Espressif/python_env/idf4.4_py3.8_env/Scripts/python.exe ...

I tried tinkering with IDF_PATH and IDF_TOOLS_PATH, but it seems that at least one of them should be set to C:\Espressif to make the USE EXISTING SETUP option appear in VSCode.
I've read all of the other questions on this error and frustratingly enough, none give a solution that works.
If I run pip install sentencepiece in the cmd line, it gives me the following output.
src/sentencepiece/sentencepiece_wrap.cxx(2809): fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'sentencepiece_processor.h': No such file or directory

I'm running python 3.10.1 and pip 22.0.3 .
*I have the following Microsoft Visual C++ programs on my windows machine,which I've just done a fresh install of as it was complaining of not having a particular C++ program.
MS VC++
I've even added the .exe file to my PATH variables but still I get the same error.
Am I missing a particular Microsoft program on my pc?
I haven't seen this problem in Windows, but for Linux, I would normally reinstall Python after installing the dependencies (such as the MSVC thing). In that case this is especially helpful because I'm often rebuilding (compiling and other related steps) Python/Pip.
Could also just be an error specific to the module and Python version combo you're trying.
From a discussion in the comments:
I have the pyenv-win version manager, so I was able to create venvs and test this for you. With Python 3.10.2, it fails; with Python 3.8.10, it's successful. So, yes, reinstalling does seem to be worthy of your time.
With python3.10
On Windows: First, install vcpkg and install sentencepiece:x64-windows-static
copy the header and lib files from vcpkg/installed/x64-windows-static/include and lib to
C:/Program Files/python310/build/root/include and lib
This should work as the setup.py install expects the library in a ..\build\root\lib directory.
As the C:\Program Files\python310\lib is in the /LIBPATH, the resulting ..\build\root\lib will point to the sentencepiece.lib
If still encounting errors, then set the INCLUDE and LIB environment variables so that the cl.exe , which is called from pip install sentencetransformers finds them.
People having windows+python 3.10 env, here are exact steps to install it via vcpkg.
Other instructions are covered in zweistein's answer.
git clone https://github.com/Microsoft/vcpkg.git
cd vcpkg
./bootstrap-vcpkg.sh
./vcpkg integrate install
./vcpkg install sentencepiece:x64-windows-static
I am new to Python and am trying to install Eve. I have Python 3.6.3 installed and am using pipenv. When I run pipenv install eve it fails with the error (here's an excerpt):
running build_ext

error: [WinError 3] The system cannot find the path specified: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft SDKs\\Windows\\v8.1\\lib'

Error: An error occurred while installing eve!
Failed building wheel for simplejson
From what I can tell, this path is for the Windows 8.1 SDK.
What can I do to fix this? Do I need to install this SDK in order for simplejson to work? I don't really want to install this SDK, so why does simplejson need this?
I suspect that I don't actually need this SDK as I assume all of this can normally be executed in a Linux environment. Why would this dependency exist when executing on a Windows 7 machine as I am trying to do?
I found the answer. Yes, I do need the SDK. Windows compilers are required to "Install a non-pure Python package from sources with Pip" on Windows machines and are included in Microsoft Build Tools. More information can be found here: https://wiki.python.org/moin/WindowsCompilers
I am using Active Python 2.5.1, Mercurial 1.8.1 and TortoiseHg 1.1.0
on Windows XP (all x86)
I am trying to configure a mercurial repo in reviewboard. For that it

So when i try to install mercurial via easy_install i get the

Thanks shu zOMG chen, 1.8.1 is a requirement so can't really change that.The second link did help, but now there's another problem. After removing -mno-cygwin occurences from distutils\cygwinccompiler.py I ran easy_install mercurial==1.8.1. The trace is as folows :

From your output it appears that easy_install is trying to build mercurial with an option that requires some cygwin parts. If you're using mingw gcc you might want to look at https://www.mercurial-scm.org/wiki/BuildingOnWindows for instuctions on how to build in windows.
Is there a reason you're using 1.8.1? The latest version is 2.1.2.
Googling around, Compiling with cython and mingw produces gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-mno-cygwin' might help you with this too.
There are also exe and msi installers for Windows at https://www.mercurial-scm.org/downloads.
In my opinion, the TortoiseXXX changes the mental picture of what is behind the wrapper. It was difficult for me to explain to my colleague how to work with CVS correctly when TortoiseCVS was used.
Off topic: For your own other purpose, try also Git instead (http://git-scm.com/) The idea is very similar. I guess the Git is going to win statistically.
The msysgit (Windows) is nice, the functionality is comparable with the original Linux one, the included Git Gui and gitk may have rather strange look (Tcl/Tk), but they are very good for the basic Git operations.
I am setting up Python and Django on os X 10.7 from a virgin install and Xcode 4.3.
I tried using the default install of Python:
/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/
I normally use a Python based package manager called easy_install.
Easy_install seems to not be able to find the compiler.

Apparently, the system attempts to use the same compiler used to compile the installed Python framework.
For some reason Apple didn't include llvm-gcc-4.2.
Xcode 4.1 used GCC, but with Xcode 4.3 that seems to have changed.
From what I can gather, Apple wants to use Clang as the compiler vs GCC.
So I added to .bash_profile:
cc=clang
I decided I would just recompile Python with clang but first, I needed to install readline.
Fail:

What the easiest way to install Django on Lion 10.7?
Did you install the command-line tools with Xcode 4.3? They are not installed by default. You can install them by going to the Downloads pane in Xcode 4.3's preferences.
Making it way too hard:
First, make sure you install Xcode (available for free in the Mac App Store). It includes all the build tools that might be necessary to compile certain Python packages.
To get easy_install just download setuptools and follow the instructions for installing on Mac OS X at that link.
Once that's done, you can easy_install virtualenv to get a nice segregated environment to work in.
For the MySQL issue you have to edit the site.cfgfile:
mysql_config = /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config
And then:
$ python setup.py build
$ sudo python setup.py install
Try updating XCode and reinstall all global site-packages. You may also want to try pip instead of easy_install.
You can also try to compile with
export ARCHFLAGS='-arch i386 -arch x86_64'
This solved many of my problems in the past when upgrading OSX versions.
