as Python 3 is out I'd like to completely uninstall 2.7 on windows 10 64 bit. How can I achieve this?
Removing paths and using the installer to uninstall solves the problem.
Python installations can be very difficult to remove on Windows. If you delete some of the obvious content, the Python Launcher for Windows may still run, but it won't be able to complete the uninstall successfully.
I installed the free [IObit Uninstaller], searched for all programs with py in the name, and was finally able to remove my old versions.

Depending on your Windows version, you may need to obtain Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows.
First, uninstall Python. Do the above update. Restart your machine. Then, re-install Python.
Note, there are separate update versions for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows versions.

I am running python version 3.5 on Windows 10, 64 bit.
I installed the PyAutoGui module for a small project I am working on. At first, everything worked perfectly. But now it appears that PyAutoGui is crashing when it clicks. I suspect that it's because PyAutoGui is only intended for use up to Python 3.4.
In order to rectify this, I downloaded Python 3.4. Unfortunately, however, when I try to install PyAutoGui (using pip install pyautogui), it tells me that it's already been installed because it sees it in the Python 3.5 folder.
My question is this: How do I install PyAutoGui in Python 3.4 with it already installed in Python 3.5?
Assume that I know virtually nothing about how to install a module manually without using pip

If you have multiple versions of Python installed you need to find your versions and rename them and their Pips.
In windows the path is, C:\\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python3x-32. The x should be replaced with the Python version and USERNAME with your username. On Mac it's located in /usr/local/bin/python. On Linux it should be in /usr/bin/python. The location might vary depending on OS and Python version.
Rename the files python.exe/python and pip.exe/pip so that each file is different. I named mine python35.exe, python2.exe and python.exe(for 3.5, 2.7 and 3.6).
Now when you execute your pip command use, pip34 install pyautogui or whatever you named the file.
Or if you really want to you can go the painful way of renaming all the path variables, but I won't explain that here.
Supposedly Python 2.7 is included native to OSX 10.8 and above (if I remember correctly), but I recently installed Python 3.5 to use for projects while I work through UDacity. Lo and behold, the UDacity courses seem to use 2.7 - wups! So instead of trying to uninstall 3.5 (this procedure seemed to scary for neophytes such as myself), I simply installed 2.7 in addition to the recently installed 3.5 and just run the 2.7 IDLE and Shell. Is this ok, or will I run into problems down the road?
I have installed two versions, 2.7, 3.4 and I do not have any problem by now. 3.4 I am using for my work project in eclipse environment, 2.7 for udacity course, like You ;).
As long as you keep your installation folders organized, you should have no issues having both on your computer, besides one thing. The path environment variable for python will determine which version is used by default, so I would say stick to one version, or make sure to make your programs as backwards compatible as possible. I have run into this issue on Windows, since I installed Python 3.4 before 2.7, and therefore to run older code, I have to manually select the python executable. In terms of libraries, I believe that for each python version, the libraries are completely separate, so you should be good there.
As others have said, if the installation directory is different it should be no problem at all.
One thing that'll make your life easier for switching between the two is to use an IDE such as PyCharm, you just have to change a drop down to switch between the two versions.
It should be fine. Its actually pretty common to have multiple Python environments. It helps to prevent dependency conflicts between your projects. That is what is happening when you are using tools like pyenv and virtualenv.
Using tools like pyenv and virtualenv may also help you with the path problems that others mentioned. They have commands to set up the path so that their version of pip, python, etc are used.
Im not sure about OSX, but with windows 10 my environment variables for 2.7 were overwritten with the 3.5 path. Not a tough fix, but a little confusing, since it was months later when I needed 2.7 again.
You can also use Anaconda for maintaining two versions of Python:
Download Anaconda for both Python versions
Open .bashrc
Add the path to new Anaconda you have installed for, e.g.:
export PATH="/home/paras/anaconda3/bin:$PATH"
Now there will be 2 export paths: one for Python 2 and one for Python 3. Comment the one which you don't want.
I have the same problem and it is not necessary to uninstall on version of python. Please take care to not mix them up - When you search them up on the start menu. You can make a desktop shortcut saying 2.6 and 3.5.
I have installed the Python IDE Spyder. For me it's a great development environment.
Some how in this process I have managed to install three versions of Python on my system.These can be located as following:
Version 2.7.6 from the OS X Terminal;
Version 2.7.8 from the Spyder Console; and
Version 2.7.9rc1 from an IDL window.
The problem I have is (I think) that the multiple versions are preventing Spyder from working correctly.
So how do I confirm that 2.7.6 is the latest version supported by Apple and is there a simple way ('silver bullet') to remove other versions from my system.
I hope this is the correct forum for this question. If not I would appreciate suggestions where I could go for help.
I want to keep my life simple and to develop python software in the Spyder IDE. I am not an OS X guru and I really don't want to get into a heavy duty command line action. To that end I just want to delete/uninstall the 'unofficial versions' of Python. Surely there must be an easy way to do this - perhaps 'pip uninstall Python-2.7.9rc1' or some such. The problem is that I am hesitant to try this due to the fear that it will crash my system.
Help on this would be greatly appreciated.
(Spyder dev here) There is no simple way to do what you ask for, at least for the Python version that comes with Spyder.
I imagine you downloaded and installed our DMG package. That package comes with its own Python version as part of the application (along with several important scientific packages), so it can't be removed because that would imply to remove Spyder itself :-)
I don't know how you installed IDL(E?), so I can't advise you on how to remove it.
I have two python versions on my computer 2.7 and 3.4.1 . I have tried to install numpy by pip3.4 which resulted with vcvarsall.bat not found which i am pretty sure it is included in system path. Then i gave up downloaded numpy binary numpy-1.8.1-win32-superpack-python3.4.exe. And during the installation it tells me that numpy cannot find python 3.4 in the registry which i see that it is there also.

There is an easier fix, remove and re-install python, in the beginning of python setup when you are asked if you want to install python for all users or just this user, select this user only.
That way the registry goes into current user by default and can be found easily by successive software packages. Tried it myself, worked like a charm.
Just a simpler option for technologically less literate people like myself.
But if you need it for multiple users on a PC then you have got to edit the registry and put it in manually, from local machine to current user. Copy it like explained in previous comments.
When installing numpy on Windows you have to ensure that you are using a .exe for the corresponding Python installation.
As you're using Python 3.4.1 you have to use an installer for Python 3.4.1. The installer that you were using was last modified on 25th March which is before 3.4.1 was released. This suggests it was for 3.4.0 and so will not work.

This steps work for me with windows 8.1 64bits
The problem is that some module installers look in the wrong place for Python version information.
For example, in the case of this one module, the installer was looking for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\3.4 in the registry.
I found that my Python 3.4 installer had placed this information in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\3.2 instead.
Once you know the reason, solving it is easy.
Open Registry Editor (may need administrator privilege) and export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\3.4 into a text file.
Open the exported .reg file in a text editor and replace the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entries to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Add these new entries back to the registry (here is how).
The module installer should now be able to proceed without throwing the error.

I have just faced a similar issue ("numpy cannot find python 3.4 in the registry") when installing numpy-1.9.1-win32-superpack-python3.4.exe. The solution was to install the python-3.4.2.msi instead of python-3.4.2.amd64.msi.
You are trying to install the 32 bit version of numpy on a 64 bit installation of python. It doesn't look to me like you can download 64bit scipy from sourceforge so a solution is to install a 32bit version of python.
