PyQt window closes after launch - python

I'm trying to use a QPushButton to call a function that opens a new instance of QWebView. Works but as soon as the window opens it closes again.
I've read this - PyQt window closes immediately after opening but I don't understand how to reference the window to keep it open.

Create a MainWindow class that keeps a list of open Browsers, and every time when you open a browser, just add it to the list. And when a browser window closes, it will remove itself from the list, see closeEvent.

To keep a reference to a QObject, you can either keep the variable in scope, or add it as the child of another QObject which variable already stays in scope.
And for QWidget, the parent should also be a QWidget, so, in your case, you'd want to make w as the parent of all your QMainWindows.

This also avoid maintaining manually a list of opened windows, since the object hierarchy can do that for you.
PS: The child windows are shown as toplevel windows and not inside the w window, because QMainWindow (and QDialog) has the Qt::Window flag set by default.

splash screen is blocked from ui dialog imports

I have made a big app importing a big number of dialogs all in main app(main loop).These dialogs import time is pretty long so i made a splash screen but ofcourse splash screen in main loop is blocked from the long time imports.The think i'm not getting is that i cant move the imports in main loop because i get an error from classes creating the ui , witch running as the code is checked from interpreter.

Assuming that the only problem is the large number of dialogues and not that each dialogue itself has a task that consumes a lot of time so a possible option is to load each dialog every T ms so in the interim time the QSplashScreen works correctly.

Open a file from main window to a new window in PyQt5 (in different files)

I have two files, one for my main window, which has one image and one button and one for a new window. What I want it to do is that when I push the button from my main window, it lets me load a file and show it in a TextEdit widget in the new window

I think the loadafile does return my file_text variable but I don't know how to open the new window from there. I think I need to use a destructor for main window and then show the new window but I'm not sure of how to do this (This is the first time I try OOP)
A program is not a set of files, especially in OOP a program is the interactions of objects. And the objects interact if they have the same scope, so both windows must be created in one place so that the information from one pass to the other.
On the other hand in Qt there is a fundamental concept that is the signals, this functionality allows to notify the change of a state to another object without a lot of dependency, so in this case I will create a signal that transmits the text to the other object.

Pyqt5 open child windows of class of another file *.py Pb [duplicate]

I would like to display the gif called "loading.gif" after the button is pressed. Nothing appears after pressing the button and I am unsure of what to do to get the gif to properly appear. The gif is the same size as the screen that I created (240x320).
The problem is that QMovieLabel is a local variable within gif_display so it will be deleted when the function finishes running, so the solution is to avoid deleting it. There are 2 options: make it an attribute of the class or make it a child of the window , I will show the second method since I think it is the one you want:

change label from other class in a different file

I am creating an application where I have a main window whit a label and then a docked widget that is in another file. I want to change the main windows label from a button at the docked widget. I try to import the main window file but then I can not access to the label. And I also tried to call a function in the main windows that changes the label but then the label does not change.

You are using the wrong tools, for example your code has a circular import that causes your application to close since it is equivalent to a while True.
In Qt, signals and slots are used to share data asynchronously, as well as contributing to the fact that there is no coupling between classes. In your case, Results_Window must have a signal that transmits that information to the MainWindow, this signal must be emit within clickMethod.

I had similar problem in PyQT5 where I was unable to access and set the local variables. After a lot of struggle I found writing to file and reading from file as the best solution. Simply write the desired output to file and access the same info from other file. Works great!

PyQt signal slot issue with signal outside creating class

I am trying to create a toolbar that can be modified to change actions on the fly.
However signals are not being sent when I add actions from outside the class that creates the toolbar.
In the example below the new action is never triggered. Any idea on how this can be done?

Not having a link back to parent was the issue. In FluidToobar modify code in createActions method to include self in call:
