I am writing a grid cell editor with a ComboBox. When I open (activate) the editor, I see strange behavior.
If the text in the widget is not selected and I open the list with an element, then this list closes immediately.
If the text in the widget is selected, then when you open the list, it remains.
What could be the problem?

I am working with python v2.7 and wxPython v3.0 on Windows 8 OS.
The code provided below simply creates a transparent panel named as myPanel that contains a button. The transparent panel is created on a mainPanel which contains an image as a background.
The transparent panel can be dragged around in the frame.
Problem: After dragging the transparent panel I observed that the background of the transparent panel is not updated automatically. How to update it automatically? How ever if I minimize the gui window and restore it again, the background of the transparent panel is updated automatically! I don't understand the reason of this affect?
I tried using Refresh(), Update() etc. in MouseUp(self, e) method, but unfortunately nothing helped.

You can create a custom panel and then draw a portion of the globe on that panel based on where it's located on top of the parent frame. This method "fakes" the transparency. I've included an example below.

Is there a mechanism that detects (highlight and generate mouse event) a file or a folder path in a wx.TextCtrl?
A similar mechanism exists for URL detection (using style = wx.TE_AUTO_URL with wx.TE_RICH).
Example:
"This is an example how I want TextCtrl to detect C:\Temp\Folder\temp.txt as a path."

To the best of my knowledge, there is no built-in style that would do what you want. However, you can always subclass wx.TextCtrl.
The custom widget provided below changes the style for string subsections matching a regular expression. When the cursor hovers over one of these substrings, the custom command event "EVT_TXT_PATH" is generated.
The regex may need adjusting depending on what paths you want the control to recognize.

Try this to see what the error is,
1.you press create new (any amount of times)
2.press, load file
3. click any item on the listbox (except for the one that you are in)
4. Then go back to the orginal item that you were in,
5. Then click any item, other than the one you are currently in
There will be some sort of problem, the image does not destroy itself and returns an error like the following:

I am still able to load images but the previous images do not delete.

Here you have your code fixed to clear your current image when loading another one.
This is done basically using self.parent.bitmap.Destroy().
I modified some few things without changing the structure of your code, in order for you to recognize changes. I eliminated globals calls. Look how I also eliminated the global IMAGE_LISTSEL variable and converted it in a class attribute. That is what Robin and Fenikso were telling you. Try to do the same with IMAGE_NAME and IMAGE_DATA.
Although the code is working, it is still far from being acceptable wxpython code. You can get many examples of correctly written wxpython code in the web. If you can afford it I recommend to you wxPython in Action from Noel Rappin and Robin Dunn.

Sometimes you are using bmp1 and bitmap1 as local variables and sometimes as globals. Since you are making multiple instances of them without saving the prior references anywhere then you are losing your references to the already existing objects. When you Destroy() them then you are only destroying the most recently created instances.
Try adding them to some sort of collection (like a list) instead and then you can access any of the items from the list when you need them later. Also try to avoid using global variables. Store your variables in the object instances that they belong to.
A simplified version of the code is posted below (white space, comments, etc. removed to reduce size - but the general format to my program is kept roughly the same).
When I run the script, the static text correctly wraps as it should, but the other items in the panel do not move down (they act as if the statictext is only one line and thus not everything is visible).
If I manually resize the window/frame, even just a tiny amount, everything gets corrected, and displays as it is should.
Why doesn't it display correctly to begin with? I've tried all sorts of combination's of GetParent().Refresh() or Update() and GetTopLevelParent().Update() or Refresh(). I've also tried everything I can think of but cannot get it to display correctly without manually resizing the frame/window. Once re-sized, it works exactly as I want it to.

Using Mike Driscoll's code as a baseline, I hope this demonstrates my issue. There are two different versions of using "txt". Here are three things I want you to try:
Run it as-is. With my StaticWrapText. It displays wrong at first, but re-size the window and it works EXACTLY as I want. There is no blank/wasted space below the text before the "button"
Change these two lines (change the comments):

Now you will see there is no wrapping and the text is always on only one line. Definitely not what we want. This is because of "sizer.Add(txt, 0, wx.EXPAND, 5) "...so going on to Part 3...
Keep the change from Part 2 and also change:
sizer.Add(txt, 0, wx.EXPAND, 5)
to:
sizer.Add(txt, 1, wx.EXPAND, 5)
So now the statictext will expand. This is CLOSE to working...BUT I don't want all that wasted space between the text and the button. If you make the window large, there is a lot of wasted space. See Part 1 after the window is re-sized to see the difference.

AHHH...finally! I tried using the Layout() method on virtually every level of the program, but I actually needed to use Layout() on the SIZER which is found with the method GetSizer() - or you can send SendSizeEvent() to the panel (commented in code below). Thus, the following now does EXACTLY what I want! Thanks for the help. The only other change was to store the panel with self.panel in the frame class. As a note, I had to put this statement AFTER the frame.Show() or it didn't work correctly.

Interestingly...with that original example this can be before or after frame.Show() but the other example requires that it be after frame.Show(). I'm not sure why, but just put it after and you're safe.

This works great and the next widgets are positioned correctly. You can easily do the txt.Wrap(width) dynamically.
Why are you subclassing it? Do you need wordwrap? If so, there's a module for that in wx.lib.wordwrap that you can use.

I found what I think is a much easier and automatic way to handle this issue.
After creating the StaticText control, bind the control's wx.EVT_SIZE to a handler that calls the StaticText's Wrap() function with the event's GetSize()[0] as an argument (and then skips the event).
